Editions & Categories – Guide
The following terms are provided for guidance. The specific information in the respective product listing is authoritative.
Original / Unique Work
A work offered as an original or unique work is an independently created physical work. Groups of works, variants or works with related motifs may nevertheless exist.
Edition
An edition comprises several authorised copies of a work. The edition size and, where available, the individual copy number are stated with the work. Artist's proofs or trial proofs may be designated separately.
Works on Paper and Prints
This category may include drawings, collages, lithographs, etchings, screenprints and other printmaking techniques. Technique and material are specified for each work.
Photography
Photographic works may exist as unique works or editions. Information on process, support material, edition size and authorisation is based on the available documentation.
Design Object
Design objects may be unique pieces, prototypes or serially produced objects. Manufacturer, design, period of manufacture, material and condition are stated where known.
Signature, Numbering and Certificate
Signatures, numbering, stamps and certificates are described only as established on the work or in the available documentation. They form part of the overall work-specific assessment.
Dimensions and Framing
Dimensions are stated wherever possible as height × width and, where applicable, depth. Sheet, image and frame dimensions may differ. Whether a frame forms part of the offer is stated in the product description.
Available, Reserved, Sold
“Available” denotes a work that can generally be ordered. “Reserved” means that the work is temporarily allocated to an enquiry or order. “Sold” identifies a work that is no longer available.
